About the Band

The North Devon Pipe Band is made up from a small contingent of both, ex -pat Scots and devoted north Devonians committed to keeping the sound of the great highland bagpipe alive here in the deep southwest of England.

We practice twice a week on Tuesday and Friday nights between 1900 and 2100 at Fremington camp which is only a couple of miles from Barnstaple in North Devon. Anyone who has a desire to learn how to play the instruments in a pipe band, or to continue playing from any standard is always welcome in our band. Our pipe corps is currently under instruction from Andy Edgar who himself is a serving member of the RAF in Devon and is a 5 time winner  of, and current champion solo piper in the RAF. He also competes with the RAF Halton pipe band in grade 3a.

The band plays at various engagements ranging from charity fund raising events to military tattoos. We have been known to travel some distance with engagements in France, Scotland, Belgium and even New York. (All with considerable social elements included!!)

The band has recently purchased a new set of drums and along with instruments and uniform available,  new members are always encouraged to attend. We do have a comprehensive repertoire of tunes of  a traditional Scottish theme, the current play list can be found here.
